5M is an enhanced apartment community thoughtfully designed to fit seamlessly into a predominantly single-family neighborhood. While the model is a traditional 12-unit walk-up style apartment building, conceptually the building is designed as two strong gables parallel to each other - evoking historic farm forms once found in this area. Each gable form is clad differently to further break down the building scale. Strategic landscaping and buffering create a gentle transition between the buildings and the street, preserving a sense of openness and privacy. Each unit features generous windows with residential detailing to provide an additional layer of neighborhood compatibility. 5M is an example of urban / suburban fringe infill and provides an example of site-responsive dense infill design.
